As part of our ongoing Power Assist Strategy work, our Board is committed to providing all coaches and players with clear, accessible Code of Conduct information.  These Codes are closely aligned with those published by Basketball Victoria, but tailored specifically to support our Power Assist community.
The Power Assist Coach Code of Conduct has been emailed to all coaches and team managers. Printed copies will be available at the stadium front desks for anyone who prefers a hard copy.
The Power Assist Player Code of Conduct (detailed below) will also be made available at the stadiums.
A huge thank‑you to Directors Kath and Rowena for their guidance and support in developing the Power Assist Codes.
Additional Codes of Conduct—such as those for Supporters and Volunteers—can be found on the Basketball Victoria website.
If you have any questions or would like further guidance, our Board members are all available to assist you.
POWER ASSIST – PLAYERS CODE OF CONDUCT
1.  Follow the rules

Rules help everyone stay safe and have fun. Don’t deliberately foul, cheat or hurt others.

2.  Respect the referees and officials

Abuse of referees is unacceptable.  Do not argue with the referee even if you think they have made a bad call. Accept their decision respectfully and if you think something’s unfair, tell your coach or captain and they can talk to the referee politely during a break or after the game.

Scorers will sometimes make mistakes especially if the game is fast paced. The referee’s call is final on scores.

3.  Stay calm

Don’t shout, swear, stamp your feet, push others or be rough. Being mean or rude to anyone is never okay. If you feel out of control, seek help from someone you trust.

4.  Do your best and help your team

Try hard and let everyone have a turn to be involved.  Share the ball around, and encourage and praise your teammates

5.  Be a good sport

Show respect to players, opponents, other coaches, and officials always. Treat everyone equally regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background, religion, age or other factors irrelevant to the game.

6.  Be kind to all players

Celebrate wins respectfully and learn from losses. At the end of every game, congratulate your opponents, and thank the referees and scorers.  Say “well done” to others.

7.  Have fun!

Basketball is about enjoying yourself.  If something’s bothering you, talk to your coach or teammates calmly. If you have a problem with a coach or teammate that you can’t solve talk to a Power Assist volunteer.

8.  Respect everyone

Treat everyone fairly, no matter who they are or what they believe.  Do not use social media to abuse or harass anyone else, be responsible and respectful. Power Assist has a Zero Tolerance policy regarding swearing, alcohol, drugs and bullying.  Penalties are strictly enforced.

9.  Listen to your coach

They can help you to improve and to play your best.

10.  Look after our venues and equipment

Treat courts, uniforms, and equipment with care and respect.  Take good care of everything you use.
