Congratulations to all of the teams who participated in the Summer Season Grand Finals – what an exciting night of games. With three of the five games ending in only 2 or 3 points difference.
My favourite moment of the night was when two players told us that was the first time they’d ever won a Grand Final – after playing sport for over 20 years – WOW !!!!
Victorian Championship Women – AVENGERS 25 defeated Knights 23. The Avengers got out to a quick lead with Janai, Riki and Chloe all scoring well, but then a huge come back in the second half led by Maggie and Dani – but they just couldn’t finish off the game. Well done to all the ladies – a fabulous game to end the night and to cap off a great season.
Victorian Championship Men- ROAR 38 defeated Blaze 23. This was a real nail biter with the scores very even for most of the game. It was only in the last few minutes when Blaze ran out of steam, that Roar was able to score more freely. An excellent defensive game by both teams.
Division 2 – FIRE 33 defeated Outlaws 31 – Another very close game, with only 1 point in it at half time and a win by 2 points to the Fire team. Fire played a very mature and balanced game demonstrating their solid place in the Division 2 competition. These teams finished 4th and 3rd in the end of season placings so goes to show that anything can happen in the finals.
Division 3 – TUNE SQUAD 26 defeated Hoovers 23 – and another really close and exciting game. Lots of nerves from both teams with the score even at 14 all at half time.Great basketball played by both teams in the second half under enormous pressure form a very large crowd of supporters.
Division 4 – BOOMERANGS 32 defeated Ashwood Champs 23 – The Boomerangs got out to an early lead in this game and held it until the end of the game, despite the Ashwood Champs spreading the scoring capability around to most of their players. A very large crowd enjoyed watching the players from both teams as they played with enthusiasm and great team work.
Medals for all the teams will be presented on 18th May. Fixture will be available this week on the internet.
The organising committee would like to thank all of the players, coaches, supporters, referees and volunteers who have made the Summer Season a most enjoyable one. Our competition is unique, we focus on creating a safe, happy environment for our community, building skills and enjoyment through the game of basketball – we hope you love it as much as we do. There will be a few changes in the Winter season, especially around eligibility to play more than one game per night – stay tuned for more news on this.
